This is version 5.1 of EMPLANT's MAC emulation software.
Due to the size of the 'EMPLANT.history' file, it is no longer included
with each archive. If you wish to obtain this file, you can do so by
calling our 24hr support BBS:
We also now have our complete hard bound manual (which is updated for each
new version of the emulation) on our BBS in AmigaGuide format.. complete
with screen shots, and index, and more!
(602) 453-9767 - 2400-14.4K v.32bis
(602) 453-3909 - 14.4K-28.8K .FC
* PLEASE READ THE 'CHANGES.TXT' FILE BEFORE INSTALLING THIS SOFTWARE! *

If you obtained this software update as an LHA archive:
In order to use the HardDisk_Installer script you have two
choices:
1) Format a floppy disk with the name 'MAC2'. MAKE SURE you use FFS
(FastFileSystem) when formatting the floppy. Decompress this
archive to the floppy and double-click on the HardDisk-Installer
icon.
2) Decompress the archive into RAD: and assign MAC2: to RAD:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
If you obtained this software update as a .DMS file:
Just decompress the file to a floppy and double-click on the
HardDisk-Installer icon.
*******************************************************************
Use the installer script to create your new setup! You need the file
'SetupEMPLANT' in your s: directory, and it is CREATED (not copied)
by the installer script. You also need the file 'AssignEMPLANT' in
your s: directory, and it too, is CREATED (not copied) by the installer
script.
You also need to MAKE SURE that the FIRST line in your startup-sequence
is 'execute >NIL: s:SetupEMPLANT', that the LAST line in your
USER-STARTUP must now be 'execute >NIL: s:AssignEMPLANT'.
Again, these changes are best done by the installer script.
If you are using a 68EC030, make SURE that you use the 'EC_Lauch_MAC'
icon to lauch the emulation!
The majority of all PP&S 040 boards sold for the A3000 have 'EC'040
chips, and will NOT work with the 'HardLaunch_MAC' script file
(because of the lack of an MMU).
Special thanks to the beta testers:
Brian Walz, Dan Edwards, Michael Perbix, Alan Clayson, Paul Lesurf,
Jonathan Blackwell, Pierre Tavernier, Todd Saltzman, Stanley Davis,
Steve Winokur, David Martin, Denny Atkin, and us. :-)
We should all thanks these guinea pigs for putting their systems on the
line.
Thanks to those Amiga developers who have supported our efforts:
Allen Brooks (Interworks); John (Oxxi Software); Brick, Scott and crew
(Expert Services); Macrosystems US; Dean Brown (DKB); Alex Amor,
Dave Defelici (CEI); John DiLullo (Commodore); Serge Bureau (RCS);
VillageTronics; Tim (Innovatronics); Gregory Bahlhorn (Digital Creations);
Newtek; Jim Sachs (great to chat with about our 'old' days); James
Nakiahara (Commodore); Walt Disney Studios; Paramount Studios; Tony
Alderson ('Terminator 2', 'Last Action Hero' special effects guy);
James (Pacific Rim); Gary Chow (Syquest Technologies); Hab and crew at
Moonlighter (they have saved our bacon too many times! Buy AmiBack Tools
today!); Chuck Swan (TriMedia, Inc.); CalComp, Inc.; Eddie (Spectronics);
John Sievers (Opal Technologies); GEnie; CompuServe; Portal; BIX; AOL;
FidoNet Services; and countless others!
MAC-sided software/hardware companies supporting EMPLANT:
Delrina - Makers of the Opus 'n Bill screen saver and FaxPro, two great
products!; MicroSoft; VideoMedia - 'OZ' video editing software/hardware.
EMPLANT's MAC emulation was created using:
------------------------------------------
DPaint IV (We still don't have the AGA version that Commodore was
*suppose* to ship with the A4000 packages...)
Power-Windows 2.5c (Gadget creation... forget gadgtools!)
ASSEMPRO (Don't laugh, as old and slow as it is... it is the ONLY
integrated package capable of walking though code while
in Supervisor mode). *Note* We no longer use ASSEMPRO
because the main guts of the emulation are completed.. so,
now we use DEVPAC for everything except video drivers.
DEVPAC (The emulation core and device drivers were written with DevPac)
MACRO68 (All of the video drivers were written with Macro68)
RESOURCE (Everyone call up Jeff Lavin at Puzzle Factory and thank
him for EMPLANT's MAC emulation... without Resource,
it would not have been possible!)
IFFD (Graphics extraction utility)
DirectoryOPUS (What can you say? Jonathan knows his stuff!)
Enlan-DFS (For moving things between our development systems in a serious
hurry! V2.0 is a huge improvement for us! Get this software
and an ethernet boards!)
Excaliber (Some serious speed here folks! Contact RCS!! We have the
35Mhz Excaliber now... Infini-D now renders faster than
the PowerPC version... somebody get the fire extinguisher!).
WarpEngine (It is on rare occassion that we are shocked by a product...
and this is one of them... 40Mhz, 30.12 MIPS, need we say more?)
Some of main systems used for development:
(2) A4000's w/24 megs of FAST mem, video toaster, CalComp graphics tablet,
(1) A3000 w/48 megs of FAST mem, (2) 2000's w/2630 and 2091a, (2) A500
w/VXL*30 and 8 megs of FAST mem, (2) A1200's w/1230XA's w/4 megs of FAST
mem, (1) A1000 w/2 megs of FAST mem, trumpcard controller, A4091, XT
